
Dr. Trini Mathew is an infectious diseases physician and healthcare epidemiologist with extensive international training and leadership experience in public health, infection prevention, and antimicrobial stewardship. Raised in India and Nigeria, she earned her MD with honors from Tver State Medical Academy in Russia after completing language studies in Ukraine. She completed her Internal Medicine residency and chief residency at Jacobi Medical Center in Bronx, New York, followed by an Infectious Diseases fellowship at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, affiliated with Harvard Medical School, where she also earned a Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Mathew has held leadership roles with the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA), advocating for immunizations, pandemic preparedness, diversity initiatives, and healthcare policy. Her work contributed to the revised and current 2019 U.S. recommendations on tuberculosis screening for healthcare personnel, that has led to millions of dollars in savings for diffrent healthcare systems in USA. Currently, she serves as Medical Director of Infection Prevention, Control and Epidemiology and the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program at Corewell Health in Taylor, Michigan. Her research focuses on healthcare-associated infection prevention, vaccine uptake, outbreak mitigation, One Health, and advancing equity and inclusion in healthcare.
