Suganthini Krishnan, MD

Dr Suganthini Krishnan Natesan is an Infectious Disease Specialist at John D. Dingell Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center. Dr Krishnan graduated from Madras Medical College in Chennai, India and completed her Infectious Disease Fellowship at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. She is currently the Chief of Infectious Diseases Division at the VA Medical Center and a faculty Associate Professor at Wayne State University, Detroit. She is the VA Site Director, for Wayne State University trainees, Director of HIV Clinic at the VA Medical Center. She is a member of the Infectious Disease Fellowship Review Committee and the Investigation Review Board, Educational Coordinator, and a teaching faculty for Wayne State University trainees. She is a member of the Clinical Investigation Committee and the Research Oversight Committee and is involved in Infection control, and antibiotic stewardship at VA Medical Center. She has also been involved in basic science and clinical research for the last several years.

Her lab research involved evaluation of molecular mechanisms of triazole resistance, neutropenic murine models, and the role of G-protein pathway in pathogenesis and drug resistance in Aspergillus species. She is also involved in several clinical studies pertaining to infection control, antibiotic stewardship, and quality control/improvement projects at the VA Medical Center. She is currently a member of the COVID-19 task force and leads the treatment protocols for management of COVID-19 at the VA Medical Center. She has been involved in clinical trials at Wayne State University and is currently the lead Principal Investigator for clinical trials related to COVID-19 at the VA Medical Center. She has more than 50 presentations and peer reviewed publications in national/international conferences and journals, respectively.
