Robert D. Welch, MD, MS

Robert D. Welch is Professor, Clinical Educator, in the Department of Emergency Medicine and is the Director of the Biostatistics and Epidemiology Research Design Group. He is also an Associate in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan and is the Research Fellowship Director for the Department of Emergency Medicine Robert Welch completed his MD degree at Wayne State University School of Medicine (1983), his residency in Emergency Medicine at Detroit Receiving Hospital / Wayne State University (1986), and a M.S. in Clinical Research Design and Statistical Analysis at the University of Michigan (2005).

Rob’s current interests include neurological emergencies and clinical trials methodology. He had been continuously funded (NIH – NINDS) as the Program Director of the Wayne State University Neurological Emergencies Treatment Trials Network from 2007 – 2018 and has held numerous clinical research contracts with foundations and industry. His interests and publications are related to heart disease and neurological emergencies. Dr. Welch serves on the editorial board of the Annals of Emergency Medicine (Associate Editor) and the Grants Advisory panel for the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation.
