Linda Kaljee, PhD

Dr. Kaljee is a Senior Investigator at the Henry Ford Global Health Initiative. Dr. Kaljee is trained in medical anthropology and for 30 years has been engaged in community-based program development, evaluation and implementation research in relation to disease prevention and treatment. In the 1990s, she worked in Baltimore City on development of “Focus on Youth” a HIV prevention program for adolescents, which became a part of the Centers for Disease Control DEBI (Diffusion of Effective Behavioral Interventions). She was later principal investigator/investigator on NIH grants to adapt and evaluate HIV/sexual reproductive health education programs in China and Viet Nam and the implementation of the Caribbean Focus on Youth program through the Bahamian Ministry of Education.       Her research has also included global projects on healthcare utilization, health disparities, and orphaned and vulnerable children.

In 2000, Dr. Kaljee became a member of the Social Science Task Force at the International Vaccine Institute in Seoul and she has been an investigator on multiple projects related to vaccine trials and vaccine introduction and up-take. More recently, she has been engaged in research on antimicrobial resistance with a focus on both hospital-based stewardship and community outreach. In addition to Dr. Kaljee’s project on infectious disease, she has conducted research related to non-communicable diseases including hypertension in Colombia and tobacco cessation in the Republic of North Macedonia.

Dr. Kaljee has been involved in multiple training and capacity building initiatives including development of an ethics training program for field staff at an international NGO, a web-based mentoring program for global HIV research, a summer socio-behavioral research training program for undergraduate nursing students, and training-to-research programs in Haiti and Colombia. She has over 70 refereed publications and book chapters and was a co-editor and contributor to a book focused on community-engagement and community participatory research.
