Jon Velasco, MD

Dr. Jon Karl Velasco started his medical career in the Philippines where he finished medical school. Soon after graduating, he placed top 2 on the Physician Licensure Exam. He trained in Montefiore New Rochelle, part of the Montefiore Health Systems in New York for Internal Medicine residency. There, he was a member of the sepsis committee and was involved with sepsis surveillance.

He had a strong interest in infectious diseases and later joined Infectious Diseases Fellowship Training Program at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan where he will be completing his training. He has published in the Journal of Fungi and co-authored a review on CNS infections cause by brown-black molds with a focus on the fungal meningitis outbreak in the US in 2012-2013. He has now focused his interest on infectious diseases in global health.
