Dr. Arfken is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences at Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. Her training include a PhD in chronic disease epidemiology from Yale University and a postdoctoral fellowship in alcohol research from the University of California in Berkeley. Before moving to Wayne State University, she was on the faculty at Washington University in St. Louis, in the division of Biostatistics and then in the Center for Health Behavior Research (Internal Medicine). In addition to research on behavioral health, she is the Vice-Chair of the regional Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network Substance Use Disorder Oversight Policy Board and one of select epidemiologists reporting use of emerging drugs and drug trends to a national monitoring system.
